Washington Emerges Victorious Over Oregon in Pac-12 Championship, Secures Spot in CFP, Reports NBC New York

In a thrilling Pac-12 Championship game on Friday, No. 3 Washington secured a spot in the College Football Playoff with a 34-31 victory over No. 5 Oregon. Michael Penix Jr. passed for 319 yards and a touchdown, while Dillon Johnson ran for 152 yards and two TDs. The Huskies, who overcame 9.5-point underdog odds, scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take a 34-24 lead. Oregon made a late push, but failed to recover the onside kick, ending their six-game winning streak. Two Washington receivers, Jalen McMillan and Rome Odunze, each had over 100 yards. Oregon’s Bo Nix, the Heisman Trophy betting favorite, passed for 239 yards and three touchdowns.
The win clinched Washington’s place in the College Football Playoff, marking the team’s first appearance since the 2016 season. It may also be the last Pac-12 Championship given the impending realignment of the conference, which will see 10 of the 12 teams play in different conferences next season. Both Oregon and Washington delivered a high-scoring game, continuing their tradition of big plays and close matchups. If the championship game is indeed the last for the Pac-12, this game marked a remarkable end to the conference’s era.
