The Houston Cougars and Texas Longhorns, both Final Four contenders, had successful showings at The Halal Guys Showcase at Toyota Center. The Longhorns defeated LSU with a 95-86 win while the Cougars narrowly beat Texas A&M 70-66. The Cougars’ defense has been strong, and they improved to 11-0 in 2023-24. LJ Cryer and Emanuel Sharp played pivotal roles in their victory. The Longhorns, missing their top three scorers from last year, are led by veteran guard Max Abmas and Dylan Disu. The outline of a Final Four contender for them is present, even though they are still searching for the right closing lineup and rotation. Houston is considered a bonafide Final Four contender, while Texas is more on the fringe. Both teams will need to maintain their winning ways to keep their respective seasons alive come March Madness.
