MSU President-Elect Kevin Guskiewicz is gearing up to take over the reins at Michigan State University in March 2024. He plans to bring a positive change to the university, which has been plagued by scandals in recent years. Guskiewicz, a neuroscientist and concussion researcher, is confident that the board members will not interfere in the day-to-day operations of the university.
One of his goals is to highlight the positive aspects of MSU while addressing concerns related to how the school handles instances of relationship violence and sexual misconduct. He also plans to embark on a listening tour to engage with students, faculty, and other employees at the university.
Guskiewicz’s appointment was met with enthusiasm from board members, despite previous divisions among them. His five-year contract includes a base salary of $975,000, deferred compensation, university housing, country club memberships, and a one-time payment for moving expenses.
In an interview with Bridge Michigan, Guskiewicz expressed his optimism about working with the Board of Trustees, emphasizing their collective commitment to the university. He also highlighted the importance of building a positive reputation for MSU in the aftermath of past controversies.
As he prepares to assume his new role, Guskiewicz aims to bring about a period of positivity and growth for Michigan State University, focusing on the strengths of the institution while addressing areas in need of improvement.
