Angler Christian Haltermann from Texas recently caught a massive hammerhead shark off the coast of North Padre Island in Corpus Christi. The battle with the huge catch lasted over an hour, with the shark measuring at least 14 feet in length. Hammerhead sharks can grow up to 20 feet in length and weigh up to 1,000 pounds.
Haltermann, a volunteer for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, decided not to tag the shark due to its fragility and focused on ensuring a healthy release back into the water. He credits a group of four guys who helped him land and release the shark safely, as it was too large for him to handle alone. His son, Hub Haltermann, also accompanied him during the wild chase.
Hammerhead sharks can be found in both cold and warm waters, and they often migrate in the summer seeking cooler waters. Previously, Haltermann caught and tagged a massive 12.5-foot tiger shark before releasing it. The angler’s dedication to safely catching and releasing these sharks for scientific purposes has gained attention.
