Georgia Governor Brian Kemp travels to South Korea for sixth international trip.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is embarking on his sixth overseas trip as governor, traveling to South Korea for a 10-day visit. The purpose of the trip is to meet with South Korean businesses currently operating in Georgia and potentially attract more to the state. A 15-person delegation, including lawmakers and state economic recruiters, will host a reception with Hyundai Motor Group and meet with other companies such as LG Group, SK Group, Hanwha Qcells, and CJ Foodville.

LG Group is building an electric vehicle battery plant at Hyundai’s automotive assembly complex near Savannah, while SK Group owns a battery plant in Commerce and is constructing a semiconductor materials plant in Covington. Hanwha Qcells owns solar panel plants in Dalton and Cartersville, and CJ Foodville is building a bakery in Gainesville.

The cost of the trip to taxpayers has not been disclosed. This is part of Governor Kemp’s efforts to strengthen economic ties with foreign countries, following previous trips to Germany, Israel, the nation of Georgia, France, and attendance at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.

The visit is seen as an opportunity to honor the partnerships cultivated over decades between South Korean businesses and Georgia. The delegation does not plan to meet with political or cultural leaders during the trip. Governor Kemp’s past trips have resulted in economic development opportunities for Georgia, and this visit aims to continue that trend.
