Carrie Everett, a sophomore at North Carolina Central University, was crowned Miss North Carolina and will represent the state in the upcoming Miss America Pageant. She won with her community service initiative, “We Need Equity to Build Communities,” which earned her $20,000 and a car for the year from Knox Auto Sales in Dunn, as well as $3,500 in scholarships. Everett expressed her belief in the Miss America Opportunity, which has empowered young women like her, despite her humble beginnings. She is determined to promote a new culture of equity within the brand.
This win is especially significant as Everett is the fourth Black woman to hold the title since the pageant began in 1937. She hopes to use her platform to inspire other young women, particularly those facing similar financial challenges, to pursue their dreams. Additionally, in honor of former Miss USA and North Carolina native Cheslie Kryst, a memorial fund has been created.
As Miss North Carolina, Everett will have a year of opportunities ahead of her, with the chance to represent her state on a national level. Her dedication to promoting equity and empowering young women makes her a promising candidate for the Miss America Pageant. The community is excited to see what Everett will accomplish during her reign and how she will continue to make a positive impact on those around her.
