In a hypothetical matchup, Michelle Obama would defeat Donald Trump

A new poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos found that former first lady Michelle Obama would beat former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical match-up, with 50% of registered voters surveyed saying they would vote for Obama and 39% for Trump. Other hypothetical Democratic candidates like Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer, Andy Beshear, and J.B. Pritzker would receive less votes than Trump in a hypothetical matchup. The poll also found that 55% of registered voters have a favorable attitude towards Obama, compared to 42% towards Trump. The poll, conducted among 892 registered voters, had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

The findings come as some Democrats have expressed concerns about President Joe Biden following a shaky debate performance against Trump last week, with 56% of 1,070 U.S. residents surveyed agreeing that Biden should drop out of the race. The poll results suggest that Michelle Obama would be a strong candidate if she were to enter the race, outperforming both Trump and other potential Democratic contenders.
