Airbnb Guest Overstays Booking and Refuses to Leave Durham Home, Evicted Over a Month Later

A long-term Airbnb rental in Durham, North Carolina turned into a nightmare for property owner Farzana Rahman when the guest refused to leave after their booking ended in May. Despite multiple attempts to get the guest out, Rahman had to take legal action, leading to an eviction notice being served by the Durham County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday morning.

Rahman’s assistant, Jane Miller, described the guest as flustered but cooperative during the eviction process. The locks on the property have been changed in hopes that the ordeal is finally over. Airbnb has not responded to requests for comment since the eviction, but in previous statements, the company mentioned working on compensating Rahman for the extra nights stayed and any damages or additional cleaning needed.

Rahman expressed relief that the situation has been resolved through the legal system and hopes that no one else has to go through a similar experience. The guest’s behavior was deemed unacceptable, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of following rules and respecting agreements in rental situations.

The story first broke on ABC11 in early June and has since garnered attention for its unusual circumstances. The eviction marks the end of a troubling chapter for Rahman and highlights the potential risks of hosting long-term guests through platforms like Airbnb.
