Texas Democrats are divided on whether President Biden should continue in the race following his poor debate performance and ongoing concerns about his age. Congressman Lloyd Doggett was the first to call on Biden to withdraw, stating it was a difficult decision but necessary. Following Doggett’s statement, former HUD Secretary Julian Castro also expressed similar sentiments, believing another Democrat would have a better chance against Trump. State Rep. Ron Reynolds also advocated for a new candidate, suggesting a potential change at the Democratic National Convention next month. Despite the growing calls for Biden to step aside, other Democratic leaders like Hakeem Jeffries and Dallas congresswoman Jasmine Crockett urge calm, stating that the ongoing discussion is a distraction. The Biden campaign is feeling the pressure, and the president plans to meet with Democratic governors and conduct his first post-debate television interview. However, despite the controversies, the Biden-Harris campaign announced a fundraising record, with donors contributing $127 million in June, $38 million of which came in after the debate. As the election approaches in four months, the debate over whether Biden should withdraw continues within the Texas Democratic party.
