A tragic incident occurred in Nags Head, NC, on Wednesday, resulting in the drowning of an 18-year-old from Columbus. The Nags Head Fire and Rescue and Nags Head Police Department were alerted to swimmers in distress at Gull Street Public Beach Access. While two swimmers managed to reach shore safely, the third was missing. Despite efforts by a lifeguard and aerial support, the missing swimmer was located by a Nags Head police officer with the help of a drone and brought to shore, but unfortunately, the teenager did not survive. The identity of the victim has not been released yet.
The surviving swimmers were transported to a hospital for treatment. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of swimming in the ocean, especially for inexperienced swimmers.
