Actor Angie Harmon and her daughters are still grieving after their dog, Oliver, was shot and killed by an Instacart delivery person at their home in North Carolina in late March. Harmon has filed a lawsuit against Instacart and the delivery person, Christopher Anthoney Reid, seeking more than $25,000 in damages.
In the lawsuit, Harmon accuses Reid of trespassing, negligence, invasion of privacy, and more, alleging that he impersonated another shopper named Merle on the Instacart app. Harmon claims that Reid had ample opportunity to leave the property without resorting to shooting the dog, and that she did not consent to him entering her property or accessing her personal information.
After the incident, Harmon and her family have been in therapy for PTSD and are still struggling to cope with the trauma. Harmon believes that people need to be aware of what could happen in similar situations and is speaking out about the need for safety and accountability.
Instacart has said that they have permanently deactivated Reid’s shopper account and take violence very seriously, with a zero-tolerance policy for any form of aggression. The company also confirmed that a necropsy performed on Oliver showed no signs of him having attacked or bitten anyone.
Overall, Harmon’s lawsuit and public statements following the shooting shed light on the emotional toll of such incidents and the importance of ensuring safety and accountability in delivery services.
