Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point has been recognized as one of six recipients of the 2024 Commander In Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence. This prestigious award is highly competitive and acknowledges the exceptional efforts of those who manage US military installations.
MCAS Cherry Point, home to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing and Fleet Readiness Center East, was selected for this award based on its achievements across various areas of installation management, including mission support, energy conservation, quality of life for military personnel and their families, environmental stewardship, and communication.
One of the key accomplishments that contributed to MCAS Cherry Point receiving this award was its management of the $1.1 billion F-35 transition program, which included welcoming the first operational squadron and successfully occupying a new flight simulator facility.
The air station also implemented a Utility Energy Service Contract to enhance energy resilience, improve cybersecurity, and reduce energy consumption. Additionally, MCAS Cherry Point provided numerous quality-of-life programs and events for service members and their families, such as Rocktoberfest, Trunk or Treat, and Spring Fling.
This is not the first time MCAS Cherry Point has been honored with the Commander In Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence, as they previously won in 2003. Other recipients of the award include installations from the US Army, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force. Each winning installation will receive a trophy, flag, and congratulatory letter from the President.
