The original contingency plan was to postpone the fireworks until July 5, but this was not communicated to the public during the event.
Despite the confusion and disappointment, families like Tasha Smith and Alan Caille tried to maintain a positive outlook on the evening’s events. Smith had looked forward to spending time with her 5-year-old daughter at the event, while Caille, who had recently moved to North Carolina from Massachusetts, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate in the best country ever.
