The International Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem has announced its celebrity co-chairs for this year’s event. Award-winning actor Tamara Tunie, known for her role as Dr. Melinda Warner on Law and Order: SVU, and Tony and Grammy-nominated actor Clifton Davis, who recently completed a run on Broadway’s Aladdin, will serve as the co-chairs for the festival taking place from July 29 to Aug. 3. The festival, founded by the late Larry Hamlin in 1989, attracts thousands of attendees to Winston-Salem biennially.
The announcement was made at a reception on May 6 at the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts in Winston-Salem. Tunie and Davis bring a wealth of experience and talent to the festival, promising an engaging and culturally enriching experience for attendees. Tunie is also known for portraying Whitney Houston’s mother in “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” while Davis is a noted composer and musician, having written hits for The Jackson 5.
The International Black Theatre Festival aims to celebrate the contributions of black actors, directors, and producers to the world of performing arts. With the support of Tunie and Davis as co-chairs, the festival is expected to draw even larger crowds this year. Fans and enthusiasts of black theater are encouraged to mark their calendars for this exciting event that showcases the best of black theatrical talent.
