The National Cinema Museum in Turin is hosting a new exhibition titled “Movie Icons: Hollywood props” that showcases iconic items and designs used on Hollywood film sets. From the Golden Snitch from Harry Potter to Captain America’s shield, the exhibition features 117 props from popular movies spanning the last four decades.
The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to see physical objects from beloved movies in a world that is increasingly becoming digital. Museum director Domenico De Gaetano highlights the uniqueness of these objects, comparing them to artefacts displayed in an art gallery.
Challenges facing the museum include tracking changes in the film industry, such as the shift to streaming and diminishing availability of film posters. However, the museum is also embracing new technology, with permanent VR installations and plans for a section dedicated to the intersection of videogames and cinema.
Visitors to the exhibition can expect to see a wide range of props, from superhero costumes to horror movie icons. Each object has its own wow factor, with visitors marveling at items like Thor’s hammer and the Iron Man helmet. The exhibition is a nostalgic trip through popular cinema history, inviting visitors to experience the magic of movie-making through iconic props. “Movie Icons: Hollywood props” will be on display until January 13, 2025, at the Mole Antonelliana in Turin.
