More than 1,500 residents were forced to evacuate in Riverside due to the Hawarden Fire, which burned over 500 acres and damaged seven homes. The estimated cost of the fire was $11 million, causing devastation to many residents who lost everything.
Authorities are pursuing the culprits responsible for the fire, with video evidence in hand. Riverside Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson vowed to prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. However, for residents like Maihanh Tan, whose home was destroyed in the fire, the damage cannot be undone.
In Oregon, the Durkee Fire burned over 220,000 acres and remained 0% contained. Hundreds of residents were evacuated from Baker and Malheur counties. The National Interagency Fire Center reported 61 major fires burning over 1 million acres in the West, with advisories in effect in several states due to elevated fire risks.
Meanwhile, wildfires in Canada forced evacuations in Jasper National Park and the town of Jasper. Officials warned of an evolving emergency situation and urged caution for those on the road. Weather conditions are expected to remain hot with potential thunderstorms, posing additional challenges for firefighters battling the blazes.
