US Sen. Ted Budd of North Carolina criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for skipping Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress, choosing to speak at a sorority event instead. Netanyahu hailed the US-Israel alliance and praised UNC students who protected the American flag from pro-Palestine protesters. Harris and President Joe Biden are set to meet Netanyahu, who thanked the US for its support and warned of anti-Israel efforts. Budd highlighted the plight of American hostages, including North Carolinian Keith Siegel, held by Hamas for 292 days. He called for Harris to support Netanyahu and pressure Hamas to release the hostages. The Palestinian Youth Movement claimed credit for disrupting an Israeli delegation dinner, while protests against Israel erupted in Washington, D.C. Netanyahu will also meet with former President Donald Trump during his visit. Budd urged a stronger stance against Hamas and stressed the importance of bringing the remaining hostages, including Siegel, back to the US.
