A tragic accident occurred when a two-door grey sedan plunged off a cliff on California’s Highway 1, killing all three people inside. The car fell approximately 300 to 400 feet down an embankment near the Devil’s Slide, a treacherous area known for its hairpin turns and steep seaside cliffs. The victims were identified as Brylyn Aroma from Kansas, Mohammad Noory, and Angelica Gacho from San Francisco.
Rescuers were able to recover two bodies on Friday, but the recovery of the third body was delayed due to dangerous conditions caused by high tide. The car has since been removed from the water by a tow truck, and the highway was temporarily closed for investigation and recovery efforts.
Highway 1, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway, is a popular route that winds along coastal cliffs, attracting tourists and locals traveling to various destinations along the coast. The Devil’s Slide has seen previous accidents, including a doctor charged with attempted murder after driving his family off the cliff, and a Cal Fire battalion chief stating that survival is rare in crashes in that area.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by the scenic but hazardous cliffs along Highway 1, and the importance of caution and safe driving practices on this iconic roadway.
