Texas mother of five faces potential jail time over library book fines
Kaylee Morgan, a mother of five from Texas, is currently facing the possibility of jail time over library books that she claims were returned but deemed overdue by authorities. Morgan borrowed books about Vincent van Gogh from Navasota Public Library in Grimes County in March 2023. Due to a book being too large to fit in the returns box, Morgan believes that it was misplaced and that this led to the current situation.
Despite Morgan’s attempts to explain the situation to the county judge, she was met with little sympathy and was told to take responsibility for the unpaid fines. The judge compared not returning library books to stealing from a store and issued a warrant for Morgan’s arrest if she did not pay the $600 fee. This led to complications when trying to renew her driver’s license.
Morgan has since raised funds through GoFundMe to pay off the fines and plans to hire a lawyer to rectify the situation and have the charges removed from her record. The community has shown overwhelming support for Morgan, and she continues to fight the legal battle against the charges. Fox News Digital reached out to local authorities for comment but has not received a response.
