A 43-year-old man named Raheem Jefferson was killed in an execution-style shooting outside a Philadelphia mosque. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds, including one to his head and several to his torso. The shooter fired at least 17 shots using a large-caliber semi-automatic weapon. Security footage shows Jefferson and another man walking to the mosque for prayer when the suspect approached from behind and opened fire. The shooter then fled the scene in a vehicle wearing dark-colored clothing. No arrests have been made, and the motive remains unknown.
The Al-Aqsa Islamic Society, where the shooting took place, was established in 1989 in the Kensington neighborhood. Governor Josh Shapiro condemned the incident, expressing condolences to the mosque community. He called violence outside a place of worship deeply painful and traumatizing. A $20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. The community is mourning the loss of Jefferson and hoping for peace and justice as the investigation continues.
