Florida devastated by Hurricane Debby’s flooding and destruction

Hurricane Debby made landfall along coastal Florida, bringing life-threatening storms and winds with heavy rains that flooded the region. The Category 1 storm reached speeds of up to 80 mph when it hit the state near the town of Steinhatchee. While no fatalities were reported, officials were concerned about potential dangers such as tornadoes and storm surges reaching up to 10 feet in some areas. Images from Florida showed crashing waves, flooded streets, and the beginnings of what is expected to be catastrophic damage. The storm is the fourth named storm in an expected historic hurricane season. The National Hurricane Center is tracking the storm’s path as it heads towards the Gulf Coast.
