Tensions rise in the Middle East due to potential Iranian attack on Israel

Tensions between Israel and Iran are high following recent assassinations of Iranian-backed militants, leading to fears of a major conflict. The Pentagon has deployed submarines, planes, and warships to the region, with Gen. Erik Kurilla traveling to shore up support among allies. A U.S.-led coalition previously helped Israel thwart an Iranian attack with 300 missiles and drones. However, some Middle Eastern countries are hesitant to aid Israel due to the ongoing war in Gaza. The Pentagon has sent more reinforcements to the region to support Israel and protect U.S. troops stationed there. While there was initially concern over an imminent Iranian attack, the threat level has not changed as of Monday. U.S. Rep. Adam Smith warned of the risk posed by Iran’s proxy groups in the Middle East, such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthi militants, who could launch attacks on Israel without warning. Smith described the situation as nervous and risky.
