Residents flee as Edgehill Fire ravages homes in San Bernardino

A fast-moving wildfire destroyed homes and forced evacuations in the Southern California city of San Bernardino on Monday. The Edgehill Fire started on Little Mountain in San Bernardino, burning about 100 acres by 4:53 p.m. local time. Evacuation orders were issued for homes on the south side of the mountain. Temperatures soared to 109 F in San Bernardino, with an excessive heat warning in place until Tuesday night.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Edgehill fire is one of many wildfires burning in the western half of the country. The Park Fire in northern California has become the fourth largest fire in the state’s history, burning over 400,000 acres and destroying 640 structures. Over 30 major fires are also burning in the Pacific Northwest, including fires near Durkee, Oregon and the Pioneer Fire in Washington.

In Oregon, over 9,000 people are under evacuation warnings, with 1,747 residents advised to leave the area immediately. The situation is still developing, and firefighters are working to contain the wildfires in the region. The threat of wildfires remains high due to the ongoing heatwave and dry conditions in the western United States.
