Poland’s space industry achieved a significant milestone with the successful launch of the EagleEye satellite into Earth’s orbit. The mission, facilitated by SpaceX, took place at the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The EagleEye project, which began in April 2020, is a collaborative effort between a consortium of industrial and scientific organizations, led by Creotech Instruments S.A. Contributions were also made by Scanway Sp. z o.o. and the Space Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The satellite is set to deliver high-resolution images of the Earth, providing valuable data for research and monitoring purposes. The mission is expected to last at least one year, with the control center for EagleEye located at Creotech Instruments’ headquarters in Warsaw. The satellite will orbit the Earth at a low altitude, gradually descending from an initial height of approximately 500 kilometers to around 350 kilometers.
Dr. Barciński, a key figure in the project, highlighted the importance of this milestone and emphasized that the success was not guaranteed. EagleEye represents a significant achievement for Poland’s space industry, as the satellite was designed entirely in the country, with advanced technology incorporated into its design. While not all components could be manufactured locally, the satellite showcases Poland’s capabilities in the space sector.
The successful launch of the EagleEye satellite marks a historical day for Poland’s space industry, demonstrating the country’s growing presence and expertise in the field of space science and technology.
