NASA astronaut detects strange noise inside Boeing Starliner

NASA astronaut Barry “Butch” Wilmore reported a strange noise coming from the Boeing Starliner spacecraft currently docked at the International Space Station. Mission Control in Houston confirmed they could also hear the noise, described as a pulsing noise similar to a sonar ping. The Starliner, which experienced helium leaks earlier in its mission, was originally set to return to Earth without its crew on September 6. However, the crew will now remain on the space station for several more months due to the leaks. The mysterious noise began about a week before the planned undocking date. The planned return of the Starliner is now set for September 6, with a touchdown in New Mexico scheduled for after midnight on September 7. Wilmore and Sunita “Suni” Williams will stay on the space station until February. SpaceX will be responsible for their return to Earth aboard the Dragon capsule. The cause of the strange noise coming from the Starliner remains unknown as NASA continues to investigate.
