Israeli forces have handed over the body of a 58-year-old Palestinian man to the Palestine Red Crescent Society after he was arrested in the West Bank. Ayman Rajeh Abed, from Kafr Dan village near Jenin, died shortly after being detained, with signs of beatings and torture observed on his body. Israeli military claims Abed experienced a cardiac event while being detained, but Palestinian health authorities deny this.
The incident occurred amid heightened Israeli attacks in the region, with ongoing operations in Jenin and surrounding areas for the past six days. Israeli forces are searching for roadside bombs and targeting Iranian-backed fighter groups planning attacks on civilians. The operation has resulted in extensive damage to homes and infrastructure in the area.
Palestinians in Jenin have described the Israeli actions as “collective punishment”, aimed at deterring support for armed fighters resisting Israeli forces. At least 29 Palestinians have been killed, with over 100 wounded during the operation. The situation remains tense, with reports of ongoing clashes and casualties in the region.
The international community has urged both sides to exercise restraint and seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The escalation of violence in the West Bank raises concerns about the humanitarian situation and the impact on civilians caught in the crossfire. The situation remains volatile, with fears of further escalation if the violence continues unchecked.
