A North Carolina man captured video footage of a massive alligator crossing a road in Surf City, about 30 miles northeast of Wilmington. The footage shows the huge animal walking towards trees, with the man in disbelief at its size. Alligators are common in North Carolina, with the state being at the northern extent of their range along the coast. It is illegal to feed, touch, harm, harass, or poach an alligator in North Carolina, and residents are advised to maintain a safe distance of at least 50 feet if they encounter one. The Surf City Police Department has not received any recent alligator complaints. The man who captured the footage is Jonathan Findley, and the video was shared by trending news reporter Saman Shafiq for USA TODAY.
