A recent survey conducted by East Carolina University reveals that President Trump is leading Vice President Harris by one percentage point among likely voters in North Carolina, with 48% of support compared to 47% for Harris. The survey also shows that more than half of respondents are most concerned about the economy and inflation. Trump recently campaigned in Asheville, focusing on his plans to address inflation and boost the economy for all Americans.
During his campaign event, Trump promised to stop inflation, tackle immigration and crime, protect Medicare and Social Security, and implement the largest deportation operation in history. He also pledged to eliminate Social Security taxes, describing it as “cruel double taxation.” Harris’ running mate, Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, has also visited North Carolina recently, attending a private fundraising event with Governor Roy Cooper.
The survey indicated that most voters who plan to vote for Harris are more likely to do so because of Walz as her running mate. On the other hand, a minority of Trump voters said that JD Vance as his running mate did not impact their decision. The survey also revealed that Democrat Josh Stein is leading Republican Mark Robinson by six points in the gubernatorial race.
Despite the upcoming election, voter confidence in the election results remains low, with 19% of respondents expressing “no confidence” in the results. This lack of confidence is similar to the sentiment following the 2022 midterm elections. The Director of ECU’s Survey Research Center emphasized the importance of ensuring that all voters have confidence in the integrity of the electoral process.
