A rural Georgia community is grieving the loss of four people, including two students and two teachers, after a 14-year-old student opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder. The attack also injured eight students and one teacher, sending shock waves through the community. The victims were identified as 14-year-olds Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, along with teachers Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimie. Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith called the shooting “pure evil” and emphasized that love will prevail over hate. A vigil was held in downtown Winder to honor the lives lost in the tragic shooting. Mason Schermerhorn was autistic, Richard Aspinwall was a math teacher and football coach at the school, and Christina Irimie was also a math teacher. Aspinwall was described as a great father and well respected in the community. The staff at Apalachee High School is grieving the loss of Aspinwall, who was a key part of the team. The community is coming together to mourn and support each other during this difficult time.
