Carolina Public Press, a Durham-based statewide nonprofit organization, was recognized by the North Carolina Press Association as one of the top online-only news organizations in the state. The organization received a 3rd place award for general excellence at the annual awards banquet in Raleigh. This year’s contest was judged by journalists in Colorado.
In addition to the general excellence award, Carolina Public Press received six other awards in various categories. This included a 1st place award in feature photography, a 2nd place award in election/political reporting, and a 3rd place award in investigative reporting. Editor-in-chief Frank Taylor also received two 3rd place awards for headline writing and lighter commentary.
The organization’s interim executive director, Lisa Lopez, along with staff reporters and interns, accepted the awards at the event. The organization’s team has recently undergone transitions and changes, but Taylor expressed optimism about the new team and their commitment to journalistic excellence.
Carolina Public Press focuses on connecting with readers across North Carolina and keeping them informed about public-interest issues. Their recognition at the NCPA awards highlights their dedication to quality journalism and their impact on the community.
