Bo, an 18-month-old police dog with the Gastonia Police Department, has been named a semi-finalist in the American Humane Society’s 15th Annual Hero Dog Awards. Bo, a Bloodhound, has already had several impressive finds in his short career. One notable incident involved tracking down a young autistic child who had run away on Halloween night. Despite the challenges, Bo was able to locate the child and calm him down.
Another incident involved tracking down robbery suspects despite heavy scent contamination. Bo’s bravery and determination have already made him a valuable asset to the police department. One particularly remarkable rescue involved locating an elderly dementia patient who had gone missing in the cold of January.
Bo’s handler, Sgt. David Rowland, praised the Bloodhound’s abilities and highlighted the importance of allowing the community to interact with police K9s like Bo.
