University of Texas doctorate student Frank Guzman and his wife, Caroline Katba, have been missing since late July while traveling in Mexico. Their families lost contact with them on July 22, and they have not been heard from since. Guzman was expected to do fieldwork and research for his UT doctorate degree in Chile. The families grew worried after multiple attempts to contact them, and a UT professor informed Guzman’s dad that Frank had not shown up to class.
A security team hired by UT believes the couple was last seen in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, with no documentation of them leaving the country as planned. Guzman has filed missing person reports for her brother in Mexico and Texas, as well as for Katba in Mexico. She has also reached out to the U.S. Embassy and FBI for assistance.
Guzman, an anthropology student at UT, has been a Longhorn since 2020 and previously studied at Penn State University and Stanford University. Katba is in the process of opening a business. UT spokesperson Mike Rosen stated that the university would provide assistance and resources to locate and assist the missing students to the fullest possible extent.
Guzman is asking for help spreading the word about the missing couple and urges anyone with information to contact the family. She believes they would not have disappeared without reason and emphasizes that Frank is just a regular student. The families are seeking the public’s help in finding Guzman and Katba.
