A source close to Vice Governor Mark Robinson’s office confirmed to the Carolina Journal on Wednesday afternoon that high-ranking members of the vice governor’s government staff are resigning. This includes Chief of Staff and General Counsel Brian LiVecchi, who has been with Robinson since he took office in 2021, as well as Robinson’s Communications Director John Waugh, Policy Director Jonathan Harris, and Government Affairs Director Nathan Lewis.
The resignations come days after key members of Robinson’s campaign team also resigned. Over the weekend, four key staff members resigned: General Consultant and Senior Advisor Conrad Pogorzelski III, Campaign Director Chris RodrÃguez, CFO Heather Whillier, and Deputy Campaign Manager Jason Rizk.
The departures follow a recent story alleging that Robinson made a series of provocative, lewd, and racially charged posts on pornographic websites in the 2000s. Earlier on Wednesday, Robinson posted a video urging Republicans to focus on politics rather than personalities, emphasizing the importance of unity within the party.
Robinson’s campaign for governor announced this week that they have hired Binnall Law Group to investigate the CNN story. “My team and I are eager to get to the bottom of the claims made by CNN and will put all our resources at our disposal to get to the facts,” said Binnall in the campaign’s press release. “Vice Governor Mark Robinson, his family, and the voters of North Carolina deserve nothing less.”
The ongoing controversies within Robinson’s team and the investigation into the CNN story are stirring up speculation and attention as the election approaches, with only 41 days left for Robinson to make his case to voters.
