Hudson and Tillis Lead North Carolina Congressional GOP in Urging Utilization of Greensboro Migrant Facility for Hurricane Helene Victims

Republican members of North Carolina’s Congressional Delegation, led by Rep. Richard Hudson and Sen. Thom Tillis, are urging the federal government to use the Greensboro Influx Care Facility to temporarily house victims of Hurricane Helene and serve as a staging area for aid workers. The facility, originally intended to house unaccompanied migrant children, has been proposed as a solution to help Western North Carolina families displaced by the storm.

In a letter to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, the lawmakers highlighted the importance of utilizing the vacant facility to support those affected by the hurricane. Democrat Rep. Kathy Manning also acknowledged the potential of the facility to provide temporary shelter for storm victims.

The facility, initially intended for unaccompanied minors from the southern border, remains empty despite being set to open in August 2023. The lawmakers emphasized the importance of operationalizing GCC to aid in the recovery efforts in western North Carolina.

Hudson and Tillis, along with other members of the delegation, are calling on the federal government to take action and make use of the Greensboro Influx Care Facility to provide much-needed support to those impacted by the hurricane. They urge the agencies to expedite assistance and help those whose lives have been disrupted by the storm.
