Moore County Democratic Party Chair Resigns After Stealing Trump Campaign Signs
Lowell Simon, the chair of the Moore County Democratic Party and a House candidate for District 98 in North Carolina, has resigned from his position after being charged with stealing Trump campaign signs. Simon, who admitted to the act, was seen removing the signs placed alongside his own. He has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of larceny of political signs.
Sheriff Ronnie Fields emphasized that the removal or theft of campaign signs is illegal under North Carolina law. Simon expressed regret for his actions, stating that he knew better but was upset. This incident is not an isolated one, as another individual was arrested for stealing Kamala Harris signs in Moore County.
The Moore County Democratic Party condemned Simon’s actions and reiterated that tampering with political signs is not condoned by the party. Monique Baker will now lead the party in Simon’s absence.
With early voting underway and the election approaching, sign stealing has become a widespread issue in North Carolina. Mecklenburg County Republicans have reported that hundreds of their signs have been stolen and have taken measures to combat the problem. The situation serves as a reminder for all parties and supporters to respect the integrity of the election process.
