NC Senate candidate involved in pyramid scheme shut down by FTC

The race for the NC Senate seat in District 42 is intensifying as Democrats target the Republican supermajority in the state legislature. Democrat Woodson Bradley is facing Republican Stacie McGinn, with Democrats labeling McGinn as a MAGA “extremist” and criticizing her alleged support for groups like Moms for Liberty and opposition to DEI policies. Meanwhile, McGinn has highlighted Bradley’s past involvement as a sales manager in an alleged pyramid scheme shut down by the FTC in 2013.

The FTC and state attorney generals sought to halt the illegal practices of the company, Fortune Hi-Tech Marketing Inc. (FHTM), in which Bradley was a sales manager. The scheme targeted Spanish-speaking consumers and violated North Carolina laws on pyramid schemes. FHTM ultimately settled with the FTC and states, refunding millions of dollars to those who lost money.

Bradley has acknowledged her past affiliation with FHTM, as seen in her bio and YouTube videos as a spokesperson for the company. Despite these revelations, Bradley’s campaign has not responded to requests for comment. McGinn has emphasized her business experience and problem-solving skills in her campaign, seeking to make North Carolina a better place to live.

As the race heats up, both candidates are focusing on their backgrounds and qualifications to win over voters in District 42. With the election approaching, the outcome of this contentious race will have significant implications for the balance of power in the state legislature.
