Video showing mail-in ballots being destroyed in Bucks County, Pennsylvania proven to be fake

A viral video circulating online that appeared to show mail ballots being destroyed in Bucks County, Pennsylvania has been confirmed as a hoax by the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office. The video, which showed envelopes being opened and ballots torn up, was determined to be fake as the envelopes shown were glossy, unlike the official non-glossy secrecy envelopes used by the Board of Elections.

Local and federal law enforcement are investigating the source of the video, and the FBI, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and Pennsylvania Department of State have also been contacted. The district attorney’s office stated that the video was fabricated to undermine confidence in the upcoming election.

Bucks County officials, including Board of Elections Chair Bob Harvie, condemned the spreading of dangerous disinformation and urged the public to disregard the video. Both the Bucks County Democratic Committee and the Bucks County Republican Committee denounced the video, with the Democratic committee accusing it of being a racist attempt to cast doubt on the vote by mail system.

Despite the attempts to sow division and mistrust, officials emphasized that the election process in Bucks County is safe and effective. The public is encouraged to continue participating in mail-in voting and trust in the integrity of the election system.
