Bright Branch Farms, a North Carolina apple grower located near Hendersonville, faced significant challenges this year due to the impact of Hurricane Helene on the western North Carolina apple crop. Despite sustaining damage to their farm and crop, Bright Branch Farms was the only apple grower able to make it to the state fair. Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler confirmed that only one apple grower would be present at the fair this year.
Owner Trey Enloe, who purchased Bright Branch Farms in 2020, has preserved the legacy of the previous owners while adding his unique touch to the business. Bright Branch Farms grows 54 different varieties of apples and plays a crucial role in North Carolina’s apple production.
Hurricane Helene not only affected Bright Branch Farms but also caused damage to many other apple farms in the region. Enloe highlighted the impact of the storm on the farmers and the tourism industry, which heavily relies on the influx of visitors. Despite the challenges, Bright Branch Farms continues to press juice for local cider makers and offers a blend of apples for various purposes.
Enloe’s commitment to growing, processing, and serving the apples at the state fair showcases the farm’s dedication to providing quality products directly to consumers. This year’s blend includes a variety of dessert apples and is available in liquid, slushy, or spiced form at the state fair. Visitors can interact with Enloe directly, highlighting the farm’s authenticity and commitment to providing a unique apple experience.
