Cartner Christmas Tree Farm Celebrates First White House Selection Amid Recent Challenges
Newland, NC – Cartner Christmas Tree Farm, established in 1959 and renowned for its Fraser Fir trees, has achieved a prestigious honor by having one of its trees selected for display at the White House during the 2024 holiday season. This marks the 16th time a North Carolina farm has been chosen for this honor, following a state tradition. Sam Cartner, co-owner of the farm alongside his brother David, shared that White House officials Dale Haney, the head gardener, and Blair Downing, the chief usher, visited the farm to select the perfect tree from a selection of six to eight specimens.
The chosen tree will be displayed prominently in the Blue Room of the White House, contributing to the festive atmosphere of the holiday season. However, the farm has faced significant difficulties recently due to damage inflicted by Hurricane Helene, including the loss of approximately 5,000 Fraser Fir trees and substantial road damage.
In response to these challenges, Cartner Christmas Tree Farm is organizing a send-off ceremony on November 20 at the Mountain Glen Golf Course to celebrate this milestone and honor the affected community. Proceeds from this event will support local residents impacted by the flood, showcasing a commitment to giving back. Donations may come in the form of toys or direct funds for those affected.
Despite the hardships, Cartner remains optimistic and proud of their first selection by the White House, signaling a bright future for the iconic tree farm. The event promises to be a heartfelt celebration of resilience and community spirit in the face of adversity.
