Nearly two dozen visitors to Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, were stuck on the Sol Spin ride for more than two hours after it malfunctioned on Monday. The 22 riders were trapped mid-air in the coaster-like seats until they were rescued by 4:30 p.m. Two women were taken to the hospital as a precaution. The Sol Spin ride, which opened in 2017 and is manufactured by Mondial Rides, is listed as the park’s highest “thrill level” attraction. Riders experience a thrilling adventure over 6 stories high as they rotate in all directions on spinning arms. The freely rotating, floorless gondolas provide a sense of being airborne while flipping above the ground. Sol Spin replaced Windseeker, another Mondial Rides attraction, after multiple malfunctions in 2012 that left riders stranded hundreds of feet in the air. Videos taken by local television stations show riders suspended in the seats while awaiting rescue. Despite the unexpected delay, no serious injuries were reported, and the park stated that the safety of their guests is a top priority.
