Grand Opening of Dark Horse Stages Boosts Wilmington’s Film Industry

WILMINGTON, N.C., Nov. 20, 2024 — Dark Horse Stages, one of North Carolina’s premier production studios, celebrated the grand opening of two new 20,000-square-foot sound stages, Stages 3 and 4, expanding its existing facilities by over 40,000 square feet. The event hosted over 550 attendees, including industry leaders, local officials, and notable film professionals, highlighting Wilmington’s growing prominence in the film and television sector.

Kirk Englebright, CEO of Dark Horse Stages, stated, "We are committed to providing world-class facilities that enable creators to realize their visions." The evening included live music and exciting stunts, featuring a special appearance by rock legend Dee Snider, who announced plans to bring his production company, Defiant Artists, to North Carolina.

Each new studio, designed for optimal acoustics and equipped with cutting-edge technology, boasts a height of 55 feet and a power capacity of 2400 amps, accommodating complex productions. The advanced facilities aim to attract both major film studios and independent filmmakers, reinforcing North Carolina’s reputation as a significant filming destination.

"This expansion not only reinforces our commitment to the film industry but enhances our capacity to meet the diverse needs of today’s productions," commented Guy Gaster, Director of the North Carolina Film Office.

Aligned with a surge of local productions, including the feature film "Merv" and various TV series, Dark Horse Stages is poised to support a flourishing film economy. As North Carolina continues to attract filmmakers with its 25% rebate incentive, the opening of these sound stages marks a new chapter in the state’s cinematic legacy.
