Griffin Contests 60,000 Ballots Amid Ongoing NC Supreme Court Recount

Republican Supreme Court Candidate Challenges Election Results, Seeks Recount

Raleigh, NC – Republican candidate Jefferson Griffin is contesting the results of the recent North Carolina Supreme Court election, having filed a challenge regarding 60,000 ballots amid ongoing recounts. Final tallies revealed that Democrat Allison Riggs led Griffin by 625 votes after over 5.5 million votes were counted following the November 5 election.

Griffin expressed his commitment to election integrity, stating, “Protecting election integrity is not just an option — it’s our duty.” He asserts that his challenges stem from observed irregularities in ballot handling, as outlined in a release from the North Carolina Republican Party. Griffin emphasized the importance of ensuring every legal vote is counted, reinforcing the belief that such efforts foster voter confidence.

Griffin’s initiatives align with support from the North Carolina GOP, with Chairman Jason Simmons underscoring the necessity of fair election processes. “Every voter in North Carolina deserves confidence that our elections are conducted fairly and according to the law,” Simmons stated.

Final counts initially showed Griffin leading, but as counties processed additional ballots, Riggs gained the upper hand. If Riggs ultimately secures victory, the court’s composition will remain a 5-2 Republican majority; a Griffin win would adjust this to a 6-1 Republican advantage.

Griffin also filed for a statewide recount under North Carolina General Statutes, citing the narrow vote margin. Alongside his petitions, he and the NCGOP initiated a lawsuit against the state elections board, alleging unmet public record requests concerning voter lists.

The elections board criticized the lawsuit as unnecessary, asserting that they had complied with Griffin’s requests shortly before the legal action was taken, reflecting ongoing tensions surrounding the election’s integrity. As the situation unfolds, Griffin remains determined to see the matter resolved comprehensively.
