James Hart, also known as “Red,” made headlines once again by breaking a world record in bench press. Competing in the Raw Powerlifting Federation 2024 World Championships in Virginia Beach in the 80+ age division, Hart clinched victory and set a new record in the 148-164 pound weight class by bench pressing 215 pounds. This impressive lift shattered the old record of 198 pounds set by Joe Stockinger in 2014.
Each participant had three single attempts during the competition, and Hart’s best lift secured him the world record. He credited his success to his rigorous training at the Eastern Shore Family YMCA in Onley.
This is not the first time Hart has achieved a world record in bench press. In 2015, he set a record in the 70-75 age division, surpassing the previous record by 25 pounds. Hart expressed his determination to keep competing and training for as long as he is able to.
Hart mentioned that athletes from 18 different countries, including Ukraine, participated in the event. With this latest achievement under his belt, Hart is now looking forward to continuing his training and competing at a high level in the future. His remarkable strength and dedication to the sport of powerlifting continue to inspire others in the community.
