As Thanksgiving approaches, the Butterball Togetherness Report sheds light on the impact of inflation and political discussions on holiday celebrations. With an average of nine guests expected at Thanksgiving tables this year, up from seven last year, 98% of Americans report that inflation will affect their holiday plans compared to 79% last year. Despite these concerns, 52% plan to keep their Thanksgiving celebrations unchanged to save money. The report also reveals that 87% plan to serve turkey, with one in three being a Butterball.
While consumers look forward to spending time with family and enjoying good food, Butterball is partnering with StoryCorps Studios to record and archive Thanksgiving table conversations as part of a project with the Library of Congress. The goal is to capture and preserve conversations about gratitude and the events that shaped the nation for future generations.
Butterball’s purpose director, Christa Leupen, explains that the initiative aims to unite people during a challenging year by highlighting the conversations, memories, and traditions that bring them together. Those interested in recording their family conversation can participate through a link provided by Butterball and StoryCorps.
In addition to this project, Butterball also offers its Turkey Talk-Line for those with questions about cooking turkeys, staffed by experts who answer over 100,000 inquiries each November and December. As Thanksgiving approaches, stories shared through the Thanksgiving National Archive will be shared on social media platforms, serving as a reminder of the joy of gathering with loved ones.
