Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez defended the state’s management of the recent floods in Spain, particularly in the Valencian Community, in the face of criticism from the Popular Party. Sánchez announced a third aid package for those affected by storm DANA, totaling over €16.6 billion in state aid. The aid package includes measures to speed up recovery and return to normality in the affected areas.
Sánchez emphasized that the government fulfilled its responsibilities and highlighted the warnings issued by meteorological bodies prior to the storm. He also expressed openness to establish a parliamentary commission of enquiry to clarify the situation. However, the Popular Party accused Sánchez of inaction and criticized the lack of a national state emergency declaration.
In response, Vox leader Santiago Abascal criticized the government for their handling of the situation in the affected region, stating that the residents were left without necessary assistance. Meanwhile, the Plurinational Group of Sumar spokesperson criticized Vox and the Popular Party for spreading misinformation on social media.
The Prime Minister’s defense of the state’s management of the floods and the announcement of additional aid packages aim to address the needs of those affected by the disaster. The ongoing discussion between different political parties highlights the complexity of responding to natural disasters and the importance of accountability and transparency in government actions.
