Action taken against two police officers following death of girl on M5

Two police officers are under investigation for potential misconduct following the death of 17-year-old Tamzin Hall, who fled from a police car and was killed on the M5 in Somerset. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has confirmed that Tamzin was handcuffed with her hands in front of her when she fled the stationary marked police car and was hit by a vehicle on the southbound carriageway. The IOPC is investigating whether Tamzin still had the handcuffs on at the time of her death.

The officers involved have been served with misconduct notices, but disciplinary proceedings will depend on the outcome of the investigation. The IOPC is working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Tamzin’s arrest and subsequent death.

Tamzin’s mother, Amy Hall, described her daughter as the “most kindest, caring, loving, loyal girl ever” and revealed that she had been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. She emphasized Tamzin’s unique perspective on the world and their close relationship, calling Tamzin her best friend.

Tamzin’s inquest will be heard by a jury due to the circumstances of her death in police custody. The IOPC is in the early stages of their investigation and is working to provide regular updates to Tamzin’s family as they continue their inquiries. Our thoughts are with Tamzin’s family and friends during this difficult time.
