A coalition of Syrian rebel groups, including Islamist and moderate factions, are united in fighting the Assad regime, ISIS, and Iran-backed militias. The most prominent group in this coalition is Hayat Tahrir Al Sham (HTS), which was founded by Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, a former al Qaeda fighter. Despite efforts to distance themselves from al Qaeda and ISIS, HTS has been designated as a terrorist organization by the US and other Western countries. The Syrian National Army (SNA) is another key part of the coalition and is funded by Turkey, with the goal of overthrowing the Assad regime and establishing an Islamic state.
The rebel coalition has been successful in seizing control of territory previously held by other factions, such as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northern Aleppo. The SDF, largely made up of Kurdish fighters, are considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, adding another layer of complexity to the conflict. In the south, fighters from the Druze religious minority have also joined the fight, particularly in as-Suwayda and Daraa city.
Despite their ideological differences, the rebel coalition remains united in their fight against common enemies. The ongoing conflict in Syria continues to be a multi-front civil war, with various factions vying for control of territory and power. The involvement of external actors, such as Turkey and Western countries, further complicates the situation on the ground.
