The Golden Star at Marrakech Film Festival goes to Palestinian drama Happy Holidays


The 21st edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival wrapped up with an emotional awards ceremony, with the Golden Star being awarded to “Happy Holidays” directed by Palestinian filmmaker Scandar Copti. The film, a family drama about interconnected destinies, also saw two actresses, Wafaa Aoun and Manar Shehab, sharing the prize for Best Actress Performance. Roman Lutsky won the Best Actor award for his role in Damian Kocur’s “Under The Volcano,” which also received the prize for Best Direction. The jury also awarded two Jury Prizes to Silvina Schnicer’s “The Cottage” and Mo Harawe’s “The Village Next to Paradise.” The festival also included programs such as ‘Conversations’ with renowned directors, and tributes to Naïma Elmcherqui, David Cronenberg, and Sean Penn, as well as the Atlas Workshops which allow directors to develop their films with industry professionals.

The festival showcased a diverse range of international films, highlighting the talent of filmmakers from around the world. The awards ceremony was a celebration of cinematic excellence and creativity, recognizing the outstanding performances and storytelling in the selected films.
