New Digital Platform ‘Somethings’ Launched by NCDHHS Offers Mental Health Support for North Carolina Teens

Teens in North Carolina are facing mental health stressors following Hurricane Helene and entering the holiday season. The 988 Suicide Crisis Lifeline has seen significant usage by teenagers aged 12 to 18, prompting the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) to partner with a new service called “Somethings.”

Somethings is a digital mental health platform specifically designed for teenagers aged 13 to 19. It connects them with certified peer specialist mentors who have overcome similar mental health challenges. Licensed clinical supervisors ensure the safety of those seeking help.

The mission of Somethings is personal to CEO Patrick Gilligan, who struggled with an eating disorder as a teen. The platform offers free and anonymous support to teens across all 100 counties in North Carolina, emphasizing the importance of seeking help and understanding that they matter.

NCDHHS hopes to continue the partnership with Somethings long-term and expand mental health services to more North Carolinians. The platform aims to provide ongoing support for kids and teens, especially in the wake of disasters like Hurricane Helene and everyday stressors in their lives.

The 988 hotline and Somethings provide immediate and ongoing mental health support for teenagers in North Carolina, ensuring that they have access to the help they need. For more information on this partnership, visit WTVD-TV’s website.
