Former North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, once hailed as a rising star in the Republican party, has fallen from grace after being embroiled in scandal related to comments allegedly made on a porn site. Robinson, who is currently running for governor, was noticeably absent from an American Renewal Project luncheon where he was initially set to speak. Instead, the attendees heard from former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.
Robinson’s alleged comments, including calling himself a “Black NAZI” and expressing disturbing views on slavery and Hitler, have led to his campaign staff resigning and his ads being taken down. Despite this, Robinson still has support from white evangelical church leaders and Republican party loyalists.
At the luncheon, attendees expressed mixed feelings, with some continuing to support Robinson, believing that he is trying to do the right thing, while others acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations against him. Robinson’s absence at the event marked a significant shift in the political landscape, with Huckabee addressing the crowd on issues like abortion and transgender rights.
The American Renewal Project’s founder, David Lane, defended Robinson as a choice to lead the evangelical push for more involvement in politics. While the future of Robinson’s campaign remains uncertain, the controversy surrounding him has certainly impacted his once-promising political career.
